How to get FREE Pudding at Publix through August 5....

We have a wonderful vacation/homeschool field trip to Walt Disney World coming up soon, and I've been on the hunt for things to take so we can stock our rental home on a budget.  Publix has Snack Pack 4 packs of pudding cups on sale 5 for $5 right now, and they also have a display in most stores (or ask at Customer Service) with a Publix coupon for $1 off 1 4 pack.  That means your pudding packs are FREE!  Most Publix stores will allow you to use 8 like coupons, so you can grab 32 cups of pudding for free! These would be great for school lunches or snacks, too.

Just take enough coupons for your family, please don't take more than you need.  There are plenty for everyone, and the coupon is good for a couple weeks, so don't stress if your store is out right now!

How I find coupons & deals on produce & organic items...

When I teach classes, one thing that comes up time and again is this: "We don't eat a lot of the items that have coupons." or  "We eat a lot of produce/organic items - how do we find deals for those?" or "There aren't any coupons for good, healthy food."

Well, here's how I do it...

Whole Foods has coupon books, and you can sign up online at mambosprouts.com to get coupons by mail. For example, I emailed Blue Diamond and complimented their almond milk, and they sent me coupons! Most organics companies will have a website or public phone #, so write/call and ask to be put on their mailing list.  And don't forget Facebook! Like your favorite products and then watch for coupons, deals, samples and more!

Another tip: If you have a Kroger store, prowl the produce department in the early morning or evening and look for discounted produce. They have yellow and orange manager's special tags on the products. As long as we eat it within a couple days, it is a great way to get super prices on healthy veggies and fruits! Always take your coupons - salads, fruits, veggies, dips and more may be marked down, and you can still use your coupons with them!

Recently, my Kroger had Chiquita Apple Slices marked down from $4.99 for 5 individual bags, to 1.99. I had $1 dollar off coupon, so I got the 5 bags of apple slices for 99 cents! This past weekend I bought 10 Fage Greek yogurts marked down to 50 cents each, and 10 Coconut milk yogurts (regularly $2.99 each!) for 50 cents each this way!

I haven't seen other local stores that mark down products like this, but Kroger does offer these manager specials regularly. Just go later in the evening, or early in the morning! Check the bakery and meat departments too for these deals. Remember you can freeze breads and meats that are close to their expiration dates!

This week they had some super deals with their B1G1 sales matched up with my coupons.  This is what I got:

Got 4 boxes of Post cereal, 8 pk juicy juice, 2 power bars, Heinz vinegar, 5 Ken's marinades for steak/chicken, 4 Mueller pastas, Crest toothpaste, 2 packs pita bread, Cascadian organic granola bars, & Mio water flavoring.

Everything had a mfr coupon except the Juicy Juice and the two packs of pita bread. Also I had a store & mfr coupon for the Crest, and a mfr & competitor (Target) coupon for the Mio.

Total spent $16.15,  total saved $40.60.  What was your best deal or total savings this week?
This is my kind of couponing - it may not be extreme, but it works for our family!

Really good week at Publix !

Gosh, I haven't posted a grocery trip in a while here! : )  This was one of my best ever Publix trips - I was able to stock up on so many things!

I had some amazing coupons this week: a $5 off $30 purchase from the paper, a $5 off 20 participating items: Hunts, Pillsbury, Green Giant, Progresso, $1.50 off deli bread when you buy Hunts Tomato sauce, $2 off 2 Scrubbing bubbles store coupon paired with $2 off 2 peelie on one of the cans (totally free!), $1.50 sargento store coupons, paired with 40 cents off 2 mfr coupon, and the last 3 face items were clearance ~ and I had $2 or $3 off coupons, so the most expensive item was only $1.75! Most other items had coupons or were B1G1, and I even had a $3 catalina from Kroger to use.  This shopping trip is one example of why I L-O-V-E Publix! Truly!! They make my $100 a week grocery budget streeeeeeeeetch so far!!

Stick to your list to save big $$!

This week, I've made several small trips to Publix, and one to CVS. I love going to Publix a few times a week because I can use a Rite Aid or Kroger $5 off $25 or $5 off $45 coupon each time with my other coupons and sales to really maximize my savings! I make a list of the best sale items, pair each up with my coupons, store or competitor coupons, and try to always have a $ off $ coupon to use as well! Sticking to your list (which will be the best sale items) is how you can really save big - no impulse buys, just the best prices, matched with coupons so you can pay the least amount of money out of pocket!

This week Publix has one of the best deals I've seen on Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks. As part of the B1G1 sale, they are 2 for $2.59. Pair that with a 50 cent off 2 mfr coupon that doubles to $1 off, each box is about 80 cents! David eats these for school snack several days a week, so I'm stocking up!!

The Hillshire Farms smoked sausage is one of my husband's favorites. They were on sale 2 for $5, paired with a store coupon for $1 off 2, and a mfr coupon for 75 cents off, making it $3.25 for 2 packages of smoked sausage.

The Sargento cheese was on sale 2 bags for $4. Pair it with the store's $1 off 2 coupon, and I paid $1.50 per bag. That's rock bottom pricing for cheese!! And don't forget - you can freeze cheese, so stock up when it is super cheap like this!




The total spent out of pocket for the items in the picture was $13, the savings were $27. I got 3 boxes of Kleenex, 2 sodas, 1 Vitamin Water, 2 bags of Sargento reduced fat cheese, 4 packages of Hillshire Farms sausage, and 4 boxes of Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks. (The retail cost for those alone would be over $12 usually!)

Next up is my CVS trip, which I made on the way home from Publix!
I got:
Dawn dishwashing liquid on sale for 99 cents, used 25 cent off coupon
2 Colgate Total toothpastes used 2 75 cent off coupons, got $5.98 ECB back (@2.99 each)

1 kids ibuprofen - no coupon, but we needed it! $3.00





I used $2 in ECB to help pay for this, but out of pocket I only paid $10 and change! AND best of all, I got $9.98 back in ECB to use later. In the words of my 16 year old - "how beast is that?!!!"

So again, I have to say how important it is to match up sales, coupons, store coupons, and deals that give you ECB back. I only get things we will use - the toothpaste will go in my stockpile, the shampoo is for my Katie-bug, and the oatmeal is something the kids eat all the time! It was a great deal because I needed it, had high value coupons, and they paid me ECB on top of it all! There were similar deals on makeup, facial products, and body wash, but I didn't need any of those, so I didn't get them!!!! So if it's a good deal, but you don't need it, don't waste your money!! : ) You're not saving $$ if you are buying things you don't need or use.

Another great shopping trip!

Had another great trip to Publix today! Next week we have to take snack/drinks for 10 hungry little soccer players, so I stocked up on the B1G1 Nabisco multi packs, and the $1.79 Capri Suns for that. I got my husband a Medium Shrimp Platter for 1/2 price (only $6!) thanks to B1G1 sale. 10 cent Buitoni fresh pasta after B1G1 & coupons, $2 Wesson oil, $2 Italian salad blend, $1.99 Propel six pack, and so much more!! Publix actually paid me 21 cents per pack to buy 10 packs of Japanese noodles after my coupons, and they paid me 30 cents for the Hidden Valley Ranch dressing (it was B1G1 and I had a $2 coupon!!) Here's the breakdown:

Saved $55.20

Bought 29 items
used $5 off $25 purchase Rite Aid coupon
&
Had mfr coupons for most everything except sweet potatoes, Lysol cleaner, Salad, Propel, Wesson oil & 3 Capri Suns. BUT - all but the sweet potatoes were either B1G1or on sale for great prices.

After this trip I still have $176 in my grocery budget for the next two weeks!!

An Amazing Shopping Trip to Publix!!

Finally had one of those AMAZING shopping trips you only see on tv or some article about an extreme couponer! I have to share it - so y'all on the fence about the value of couponing will see that it IS worth your time and energy to do it!!

I went to Publix with a list based on the B1G1 sales, plus my coupons. I also had a $5 off $25 purchase from Rite Aid, and a $5 Walgreen's Register Rewards. Because I am a member of several sites that let you preview their new products, I had a coupon for a free bag of Perdue whole grain chicken nuggets, plus coupons for free boxes of Wheat Thin Sticks and Triscuit Flat Crisps.

I paid, used the above coupons, plus various mfr coupons for everything else (except my double Atlanta Journal Constitution Sunday papers).

My total? $1.44
My savings? $56.24
That included: $24.22 in vendor coupons, $10.50 in store coupons, and $21.52 in special price savings (B1G1's).

I bought 19 items, including Snyder Pretzels, 2 packs of Tollhouse Cookie Dough, 3
4-packs of Yoplait Fiber One yogurt, 4 boxes of Superpretzels, a Sara Lee Carrot Cake, 3 boxes of Krusteaz Pancake mix, plus the papers, chicken, and two boxes of crackers! Granted - this was just a supplemental trip to add to my stockpile - none of this is our regular food (except the yogurt!), but it is nice to have treats in the fridge and freezer for after school snacks - especially if it cost under $2 for all of it!

Best. Shopping trip. Ever!!

Making a Price Book for couponing

I've not been couponing for long, but already there are some items that I know I can find for less than a dollar, or even less than 50 cent. Now I can decide if a sale is truly worth my time. I've started writing these items down as I find great deals, so when I am in a rush, I can look to see when & where it was lowest, and decide if I need the item then, or can wait til it goes on sale again. One of the great things about stockpiling is that I usually buy items in multiples of 6! By the time I'm down to one or two, the item usually goes on sale at either Publix, Kroger, or one of the drugstores.

I use a spiral notebook, and jot down the item, date, place, price, and which coupons or deals I used with it...

here are a few of the items in my book so far:

Bounty paper towels - 8 pk - $4.99 on sale @ CVS June 27 (use with $1 CVS coupon & $1 mfr coupon) These went on sale with better coupons the next week, but that was a holiday, so I doubt I'll get them for $1.99 again! $3.99 is a really good price for these.

Daisy Sour Cream ~ goes on sale often at Publix for 99 cents, and there are lots of 55 cent coupons. 45 cents is about the highest I'll pay for sour cream!

Toothpaste - with various sales, ECB deals, and coupons, I will not pay more than 50 cents for any toothpaste, I change brands with sales!

Deodorant - same as above - I don't pay more than 75 cents for it. I'm not brand-picky.

Almond milk - the shelf stable box is usually $1.99 at Kroger. They will mark it down about once a month to $1, and I have 55 cent off coupons. We love this stuff!

Bread - I buy Pepperidge Farms brand when Publix does BOGO, and I can usually find coupons. I am picky about buying whole grain bread with no high fructose corn syrup, and they have several varieties! I buy alot when BOGO and freeze it! It is usually less than $2 a loaf this way for the really good stuff.

Applesauce - June 20 Publix had Musselmans 6 cup packs at BOGO $1.14 each and 75 c off store coupons - DEAL!

Ground turkey - this is a staple. I started mixing it with an equal amount of ground beef, but now that my family is used to it, this is what I use for casseroles, soups, tacos, burgers - everything! I brown it with garlic powder, onion powder, and liberal shakes of worcestershire sauce, then package it in two cup portions for freezer bags. I will go to Kroger early on Sunday mornings and often find the 1 lb rolls of Honeysuckle White ground turkey for $1.99, sometimes for 99 cents. I get as much as they have, brown it and freeze it!! We only eat ground meat once or twice a week, so it lasts a while! This way, I don't have to pay alot more for ground beef, and this is a lot healthier for our family.

Shampoo - I keep my ECBs handy because almost weekly, there is a sale on Herbal Essence, Pantene, Aussie etc. I buy shampoo that gives me ECB back, that is on sale, and that has coupons. Then I use ECB from the last shopping trip to buy the new products, combined with coupons, and I get more ECB for next time. All I spend oop (out of pocket) is sales tax. DEAL!

Once you get an idea of the sales rotations, you will know how often the items you buy often go on sale, and can decide how much you need to buy at the lowest price to stock up. Keeping a price book really helps you understand the sales rotations in your area.

Yesterday was my first day out - yes, I survived the surgery!! Still have some pain, but feeling a bit better every day!

I took the kids to my sister's pool for a while, then we needed a few things to make dinners this week, so I made a list from southernsavers.com, matching sales to my coupons. Last week, in anticipation of the surgery, my daughter browned 2 lbs of ground turkey for me and batched it into bags in the freezer. I brown my turkey with worcestershire, garlic, pepper, and a dash of soy sauce. It looks more like ground beef that way, and doesn't taste different!! So on my Publix list: the BOGO Old El Paso dinner kits. Here is everything I got:

Busy as a Bee!

FernThis week has been amazing. It's springtime in Atlanta, which is simply gorgeous. Trees in bloom everywhere, the crepe myrtle is in full bloom, dogwoods, pear trees etc - it's just so beautiful & green!! It's also YELLOW, as in pollen everywhere! But thanks to my Claritin D I am actually doing fine this season!

I have been researching the benefits of using seaweed, algae, etc in bath products, so this past weekend I bought some things to try! Sunday and Monday I made a nourishing spa seaweed bath tea - it's full of sea veggies, kelp, spirulina, wakame and other good stuff. Also a detoxifying bath salt with dead sea salts, jade china sea salts, kelp and spirulina. The bath tea bags are so cool - when they swell in the tub, a kind of gel comes out and you can gently rub the bag onto your skin, then pat dry (don't rinse). Supposed to be very nourishing, moisturizing and good for your skin!

Today was my big Publix trip. Spent $82, saved $126! Some of the best deals were dip for 54 c, Dawn d/w soap for 45 c, Snuggle fabric softener for 24 c, free Sunchips, and 25 c 4 packs of Fiber One Yogurt! LAter this week we'll do a Kroger trip too. I have about $118 left to spend this pay period for household/grocery - and I would love to not spend it all!!

My 15 year old got her driver's permit this week. I just added her to our insurance, and I get the feeling that this is one of those "big" moments in her life! So exciting for her, but so terrifying for me!! :o)

Fast trip to Publix - saved $14

Woke up this morning with a very stuffy head; Spring has arrived in Atlanta, getting my allergies going! Oh well ~ had to get to Publix for my double paper. It's raining, so grabbed my AJC from the driveway too, so it could dry out before I cut. At Publix, I grabbed the papers ($3), and headed to the cereal aisle. My kids love chocolate Cheerios, and I had a $1 Publix coupon, plus a 50 cent mfr coupon, and they are BOGO for $3.99. So it ended up being $1 a box for 2. Went to the frozen veggie section and got 2 Bird's Eye veggies ~ they were 1/2 off, ($2.39 each - so $1.20 each on sale) and used a $1 off 2 coupon. That meant two bags of veggies cost about 60 cents each. Ore Ida steam and mash potatoes are also BOGO for $3.99, and I got one, used a $1 off coupon. So $1 for that. Then I went to the Hallmark aisle - there is a $2 off coupon if you buy any 3 cards, and I got 3 99 cent cards for 97 cents total! Also grabbed a Woman's World magazine. My total ~ $11 for all that! I'm cutting my coupons from all 3 papers today so I can make a bigger trip later in the week to Publix and Kroger. :o) I love couponing!!

Fisher Fusions - something for everyone!!

I had one more thing to share tonight. I've had a bunch of $1 off coupons for any Fisher product, and Publix has had Fisher Fusions Snack mixes on sale 2 for $3 lately. Well, I can't pass up any snack-y thing I can send with the kids for school that only costs 50 cents! So we've tried 3 versions so far ~ Ice Cream Sundae, Cinnamon Roll & Tropical Twist. The Ice Cream Sundae version has chocolate covered peanuts, coated marshmallows, dried pineapple & strawberry pieces, and banana chips!
The Cinnamon Roll version contains cinnamon coated raisins, vanilla coated raisins, cinnamon praline pecans, and crunchy cinnamon cookies. And the tropical version has fruits and nuts like mango, pineapple, etc. I had to hunt them down the first time we tried them, they were on the snack aisle with granola and other snack mixes, but not with the nuts, like I expected! :o) If you see them, grab a bag to try at home - they are a really unique snack with fantastic flavors!

Couponing this week

So this week, I had a couple small trips to the store for things that went on sale. The best trip was to Publix on Friday - I had two bags full of groceries - total before coupons was $31 and change, but went down to $11.15 - then I used my $10 Register Rewards from Walgreens (my Publix accepts them as competitor's coupons!) and I paid $1.15 out of pocket. This morning, we went back for the 1/2 price cereal sale - bought 2 boxes of Rice Krispies (used a $1 off 2 mfr coupon, and 2 store coupons for 55 cents off each box), then 2 boxes of Kellogg's Heart Smart Cereal for $1.99 e using 2 $1 off coupons....plus a double Sunday Atlanta Journal for coupons, and a donut for David - was $20.01 before coupons, after coupons & a $2 Register Reward I paid $5.91 out of pocket. So the kids are set for a while on cereal, and so am I! :o)

My best coupon tips ~

I check Southernsavers.com on a daily basis (several times, actually!) for freebies, coupons to print, and other good things.

I have the Sunday paper delivered, and also buy a double paper every weekend so I have 3 copies of the coupon inserts. There are some weeks I'll buy more if it is a really good week! :o)

I check CVS's cosmetic section often - they have a great clearance sale when they need to make room for new stuff. Combine 75% off with coupons and you can literally get makeup for $1 or much less! I snagged some $16 foundation for $2 a jar back in January this way, and some Loreal and Revlon eyeshadows for 24 cents each!

Use upromise coupons - they will deposit money from the coupon into savings for your kids, grandkids, a friend, you get to choose!

cellfire.com has ecoupons that can be loaded onto a KrogerPlus card to combine with mfr coupons.

My goal is to have a fully stocked pantry by the end of this year, so that I only have to shop once a week for dairy and fresh produce. Right now, I'm getting stocked up on medicines, toothpaste, and paper goods, as well as some canned items. It's going to take a while! Every 2 weeks I make 2 "big" trips to Publix and Kroger for each store's best deals with my coupons. Our budget is about $100 - $120 a week for groceries.

Always check out the printable coupon sites: I think the best ones are Allyou.com, Smartsource.com and Redplum.com - then print anything you might buy - because they all have a limited # that can print of each coupon and once they are gone, they are gone! I try to print a couple of each when it will let me, but you can usually only use one printed coupon at each store per day.
