Review: True Synergy Yacon Syrup

I am excited to share a new product with you today.  I applied to review True Synergy's Yacon Syrup, and when it arrived I could hardly wait to open it up! It's a dark, thick syrup with a taste and smell reminiscent of molasses.

Pure yacon syrup assists in weight loss and slimming waist sizes, regulating blood sugar, and increasing daily fiber intake.

The syrup, distilled from the Peruvian tuber yacon -- contains up to 50 percent fructooligosacharides, or FOS.  FOS, classified as a prebiotic, is a non-caloric sweetener and also a fiber source.

According to a 2009 Scientific study, daily intake of yacon syrup produced a significant decrease in body weight, waist circumference and body mass index, when taken as directed.

Yacon syrup speeds up the metabolism to combat excess fat and regulates the hunger hormone, making you feel full longer.

It is a Low-Glycemic sweetener so it's perfecct for diabetics!

I have been enjoying this syrup in my evening cup of hot peppermint tea.  It's warm, rich flavor adds a hint of sweetness the tea needs.  I'm also planning to try it in my baked bean and gingerbread recipes- in place of the usual molasses.  I think it will be a wonderful addition! You can purchase this delicious, healthful Yacon syrup for yourself on Amazon.

I haven't noticed significant weight loss from using this Yacon syrup, but it is a welcome addition to my pantry!

Hope you will give this syrup a try - it's a keeper!  What's your favorite alternative sweetener? Leave a comment below and let me know.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

How to FAIL at Pinterest!

So I have been obsessed with Pinterest this summer/fall - planning a bridal shower, getting wedding ideas, recipes, homeschool ideas, and party ideas.  My friend Renea hosted a fabulous Halloween party for our boys a few weeks ago and I wanted to bring a few things too - some cookies, a cheeseball, and some favors.   I just had to show you this big fat pinterest FAIL!

I found these finger cookies all over pinterest.  Everywhere! So I rolled out my dough, let it chill, and then got busy forming the coolest fingers EVER. Popped that cookie sheet in the oven and about cried when I took them out.  Duh - they are going to spread, I just didn't think about it, lol! So the next batch was a sheet full of teeny tiny kiddie-sized fingers.  Yeah, still spread and looked like blobs.  I called them ogre fingers and called it quits!  (Click on the image above to see it full-sized in a pop-up, it just wouldn't fit in the blog layout any bigger)

I think next year I will try with a shortbread dough, since that usually doesn't spread out as much. These were yummy, but disappointing in appearance.  I got out my Trader Joe's chocolate, coffee and sugar grinder to sprinkle these with "graveyard dust", in case you were wondering what the black specks are! :)

Stay tuned for the details of our super-fun, a little spooky Halloween party....
