2016 Summer Movies Schedules - reduced ticket prices! #Atlanta #summer #kids

It is just about time to start planning summer fun for the kiddos, and try to stay on a budget, too! We like the summer movies offered by several theaters - admission is cheap and they usually have deals on snacks, too.  It's nice to hang out in an air-conditioned theater for a few hours during hot summer days!

Here's what I found so far:

Regal Cinemas Summer Movie Express offers $1 movies on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  The same movies play both days.   Movies start at 10 am.

At our closest location (Hamilton Mill) this is the movie schedule (which starts June 7):

Week 1
The Lego Movie
Max

Week 2
Goosebumps
The Iron Giant: Signature Edition

Week 3
Pan
The Smurfs 2

Week 4
Despicable Me 2
Home

Week 5
Minions
The Peanuts Movie

Week 6
Alvin & The Chipmunks: The Road Chip
Curious George

Week 7
The Book of Life
Hotel Transylvania 2

Week 8
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2
Shaun The Sheep

Week 9
The Croods
Dr. Suess' The Lorax

Check the website (linked above) for your local theater's schedule, as it may vary!

Cinemark's Summer Movie Clubhouse offers you the chance to prepay for 10 movies for $5, or pay $1 per movie at the box office.  Click here for the schedule and information for the Fayetteville, GA location.  Check their website for other locations and schedules!

Carmike Cinemas does not have their Summer Series listed as of today.  You can check their site to find out when they will offer free or reduced movies!

The AMC Theaters website does not have their Summer schedule available yet, either.  You can check their website for updates.

You can also keep an eye on Movie Tavern and Studio Movie Grill for any Summer specials - as of now, none are listed yet.

The Best Summer Day Camps in Atlanta 2016

It is never too early to begin planning for summer activities for your kids!

Over the years, both of my kids have attended various summer day camps.  One or the other has done dance camp, comedy camp, golf camp, drama camp, church camp, volleyball camp, cheerleading camp, and a few others. They have each learned something special at every camp they attended, they made new friends and discovered new interests.  The memories made at camp will be with my kids forever. Summer camp is a great way to let your kids try something new, and meet new kids that they wouldn't necessarily meet at school or regular activities. It's such a great experience for them to have!

I hope that this list can give you some good ideas for day camps for your kids this summer.  Don't you feel lucky to live in metro Atlanta, where we have so many options for summer camp? I sure do. It doesn't matter if you live in Cobb, Gwinnett, Henry, or Forsyth.  There are camps all around the metro area!  And even better, there are camps for just about every interest you can think of. Seriously, the ones on this list are just the tip of the iceberg!

I know it seems rather early to be thinking about summer; after all, it's still winter - we just had snow flurries last week! Some camps are already open for registration though, and others will be starting registration in the weeks to come. There are half-day camps for littles, all day camps for elementary and older kids, plus sleepaway camps, here and outside the Atlanta area.  So many choices!

This is the perfect time to start looking at all of the camp options available, and then narrow down the choices with your kid(s).  Many camps will offer an early-registration incentive in the form of a dollar amount off, or a percentage off camp tuition. Some camps offer discounts for members (like the Y), or residents of a county or city.  These discounts are a great reason to choose your summer camp early and get registered!  Some camps also offer scholarships, tuition assitance or payment plans.  You need to apply early if you want to take advantage of these.  Another good reason to start your camp search now, right?

Please visit my Atlanta Summer Camp Guide for a longer list of summer camps in the metro Atlanta area. There are even a few listed there that are outside Georgia, and some overnight and sleepaway camps, too.  It's another great place to search for the perfect camp for your kids this summer!

The Actor's Scene has some fantastic camps for kids ages 4- 18! Little ones can attend Frozen or Star Wars camp, while older kids can make a movie, or the new Sketch Comedy camp.   (My daughter took acting classes here several years ago, and loved both the instructors and the experience she gained.)

Atlanta Ballet Centre for Dance Education Summer Camp offers non-competitive day camps for ages 2 and up.  No auditions required.  Classes held at Buckhead Centre, Powers Ferry Centre, and Michael C. Carlos Dance Centre throughout the summer.

Atlanta Hawks Summer Basketball Camp is where participants receive professional instruction from qualified coaches in a fun environment.  Kids of all skill levels get the opportunity of a lifetime to learn from the pros!  Camps are offered at locations around town.

Builder Bunch LEGO Lover Camp is for the LEGO lover in your life! They offer LEGO day camps all over town, where kids learn to build bridges, trains, catapults, and more while competing with other campers to complete missions.

Camp Pine Acres Girl Scout Day Camp features weekly camps such as Frozen in Summer, Colonial Times, Aquatic Juniors, Road Trippin' USA and others.  This camp is located at Lake Allatoona.

Challenge Island is S.T.E.A.M based (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) and offers camps and other opportunities for elementary-aged kids.  Keep checking their website for Atlanta summer camp information (none posted as of 2/8/16)

Circus Summer Day Camp is offered to kids ages 5 through teens, and is offered in Dunwoody, Decatur and at YMCA locations in Marietta and Norcross.  Kids get an introduction to circus skills, performing arts, visual arts and exercise.  All skill levels welcome!

Club SciKidz offers a variety of programs for kids ages 4-15.  Choose from fun camp programs like Culinary Arts, Extreme Science, Master Minecraft Coder, CSI, 3D Printing and many more! Several locations to choose from, too.

Elachee Nature Center Summer Camp is a 1440 acre woodland setting that allows kids to explore and play in the great outdoors! They offer camps for preschool through middle school, and a Counselor-in-training program, too.  (My son really likes visiting this Nature Center - so much to see and explore there!)

Emagination Computer Camp at Georgia Tech is aimed at kids 8-17.  They can choose from programs like Coding, Video Game Design, Making Apps, RC cars and robots, Create in Minecraft and others!

Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center Day Camps are for kids ages 2 - 13.  Some of the fun day camps session they offer include Garden Earth Naturalist, American Girl: Exploring the Past with Dolls, Civil War Camp, Prehistoric Georgia, Camper vs. Wild, Cream of the Crop Farm Camp, Wildlife Forensics, and Celts & Vikings.  (We really enjoy the Gwinnett EHC - they have fantastic programs throughout the school year, too)

Imagine That! Summer Camp is offered at locations around the metro Atlanta area. S.T.E.A.M based programs include Coding, Robotics, Sewing, LEGO MINDSTORMS, Minecraft and Programming. This camp is for kids who are ages 5-14.

Junior Zookeeper Day Camp is where kids ages 8 and up learn to feed, train, groom, clean and care for the animals at the North Georgia Zoo.  Crafts, pony rides, feeding baby animals and more are some of the highlights of this fun zoo camp!

Junior TreeKeepers Day Camp offers kids adventures every day.  They will explore the outdoors, bike the Atlanta Beltline, and take field trips to local attractions.  Located in Inman Park, this camp is for kids who are rising 1st graders to rising 6th graders.

Kid Chess Day Camp is held at various Marietta locations and in Cumming.  Kids get lots of time playing chess including Bughouse Chess, Blintz Chess, and Blindfolded Chess.  They have the opportunity to play top instructors, too.  Kids can improve their skills drastically in just one week of Chess Camp.

Lake Lanier Islands Summer Sailing Camp  is a great place for kids 8-13 to learn about sailing, boat safety plus games, swimming and lots of fun in the water!

Margaret Mitchell House Summer Camp is perfect for the child who loves writing! Check out there Mystery in the City Day Camp, Poetry & Performance, Write On: The Essentials and several other day camp options.

Metro Atlanta YMCA Day Camps feature more camps than I can share here! On the various YMCA pages, I saw options for cowboy/cowgirl camp, games camp, olympics camp, sports camp, and many more day and half day camps for kids! The YMCA does a great job with day camps - I have fond memories of the one I attended as a child in Florida!

Midtown International Schools Summer Day Camps offers programs that change weekly.  They have day camps for kids who are rising kindergarteners through rising 8th graders.  Some of the weekly day camps for 2016 include Egyptology, Robotics, Volcanos, Film and Video Production and several others.

Play By Play Sports Broadcasting Camp If you have a budding sports journalist at your house, then this camp will be their dream come true!  This camp will be in Atlanta July 18-22, and will be held at Emory University.  For kids 10-18.

Play! Music and Art Camps give kids several camp options  - art, music, video game design, comics and manga and a few more.   Most camps are for elementary aged kids.

Robots-4-U - They offer half day and full day options at locations around Atlanta. Camps include Drones, Robotics, and Battle Bots.  (Click the banner on the bottom of the page linked here for a 60% off coupon!)

SeaVentures H20 Swim Camp offers weekly camps for kids 5 - 12.  Each week there is a new camp theme.  Day camp themes include Olympics, Pirates, Hawaiian, Ocean, and Water Safety.

School of Rock East Cobb has fun choices like build your own guitar, performance and song writing camps for kids ages 7-17.  They have a half-day camp for kids 4-7, too.

Train Summer Camp at the Southeastern Railway Museum   as of February 2016, camp information is not listed, but last year,  kids learned about the history of railroads,  did railroad-related crafts and activities and rode on a train! Keep checking their link for the 2016 summer camp registration form.

WinShape Camps offer an incredible Christian-based daycamp.  Kids have worship time, bible study, sports, singing, and more each day of this week long day camp. On the final day, parents get to attend and, after seeing what the kids learned all week, there is a family picnic with the campers.  David attended this camp several summers ago and it was an awesome experience for him!  In fact, the picture at the top of this post is of David on his final day of Camp WinShape in Dacula, Ga.

The best recipes for Good Girl Moonshine (Trim Healthy Mama drink)

Cherry Limeade Good Girl Moonshine
Updated 1/12/16 with two new recipes I am enjoying! I also added my affiliate link to many products on Amazon.  Of course, I get a small commission if you purchase any of these items, but I mostly posted them so you can see some of the products in their packaging, and that may help you spot them in the store! It helps knowing what you are looking for. (I need visuals when shopping for tea - have you seen the tea aisle at Whole Foods?! Oh my gosh!)

My links to the THM store will take you to the main page and you can shop under the THM products link in the middle of the page for the book, sweeteners, baking blend, etc from there.  Thanks for stopping by, and let me know how you like these versions of GGMS!

I am following Trim Healthy Mama guidelines for about half of our meals, and one thing I really enjoy is the Good Girl Moonshine!! It's a drink you can sip on all day long.  The more the better!  I make my usual GGMS with several basics.  First, start with filtered water.  Fill a glass about 3/4 full. Then I add a tablespoon of Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar (you want the unfiltered kind, with the mother in it), lemon or lime juice, and ginger. You can add stevia, xylitol, gentle sweet, or other on-plan sweeteners if you would like.  I prefer it unsweetened.  I usually make it in a quart size jar or glass, too.  Last night I ran out of those jars so I used my pint sized ones too! I love to pull one out of the fridge and drink it while it's still super-cold and refreshing!

For ease in preparation, I have a little ice cube tray that I use to make ACV cubes, citrus juice cube and ginger cubes.  The ginger gets juiced (with a little filtered water) in my Vitamix and then frozen for GGMS.  I store the cubes in freezer bags and add one or two to my glass each time I make GGMS.  I like to mix things up - so here are a few of my favorite variations of GGMS!  Remember, you can add an on-plan sweetener to any of these drinks if desired.

GGMS Fruit Punch ~ I use 1 lemon ginger probiotic tea bag, 2 oolong tea bags, 1 black tea bag and 1 green tea bag, plus about 1/3 (of a large pitcher sized) stick of True Lime Black Cherry Limeade Powder and mix in a pitcher.  I still add everything from the main recipe, but this one has a sweet, fruity flavor I love!

GGMS Cherry Limeade:  Water, ACV cube, lime juice cube, ginger cube, and a sprinkle of True Lime Black Cherry Limeade.  Once dissolved, add ice to fill glass.  Turns a pale pink and tastes amazing! (pictured at top of this post)

GGMS Cherry Lemonade ~ I make my regular glass of GGMS, and add cherry and lemon extract to taste.  Sometimes I'll add an oolong tea bag and a black or green tea bag to make cherry lemon tea, too.

GGMS Lemon Mint ~ Make glass of GGMS, then add lemon and mint extract (I only use a tiny drop of mint - it is strong!).  Again, tea bags make it even better!

GGMS WATERMELON LIME:  I use a green tea bag, 2 oolong, and 1 Celestial Seasons Watermelon Lime Zinger, plus the ACV, ginger and a squeeze of fresh lime. SO good!

GGMS Coconut Zinger:  I found CS Coconut Zinger tea bags at Sprouts this week, so I'm still playing with this.  2 oolong bags, 1 coconut zinger tea bag, ACV, ginger and fresh lime juice.  I also added a big splash of Bai5 Molokia Coconut.  Really delish!

Walmart has some extracts, and also the True Lemon and True Lime drink mixes, so play around and make your own flavors.  I'd love to hear your favorites - leave a comment below!

Thanks for stopping by....

Summer Series ~ Stone Mountain Park #Yurts and SMP giveaway!

If you live in or near Atlanta, you know that Stone Mountain Park is the ultimate summer family fun destination.  They have everything you could think of to enjoy a summer day (or two!)  There's golf, mini golf, the new Georgia Justice Wild West Train Show, a 4D movie theater, Geyser Towers, SkyHike, the Great Barn, plus great shopping.  Ride the Ducks, then visit The Antebellum Plantation & Farmyard for a glimpse back in time.  You can even climb the mountain for a great workout!  After all that fun, find a spot on the lawn or reserve your Terrace seating to enjoy the Lasershow Spectacular in Mountainvision for lights, flames, fireworks, and great music!   See what I mean about SMP being the perfect destination?  This summer, Stone Mountain Park has added something really unique that families will absolutely LOVE.....Yurts!!

I'm excited to share these unique campground accomodations with you.  There are three yurts available, and they are booking up quickly.  So if you like what you see here, you will want to reserve
yours now so you can enjoy a night or two at Stone Mountain Park this Fall.

Yurts are round dwellings with a latticework support system inside, providing strength and shelter against the elements.  Stone Mountain Park's yurts are a very nice alternative to tent camping and provide comforts of home at a very reasonable price!  They have electricity, air conditioning and heat, a ceiling fan, beautiful log furniture, and room for the entire family!

I can see my son and I setting up a game of Life or Scrabble on this table! This yurt is the perfect place for
reconnecting with your family after a busy week!

There is a bunk bed with a futon underneath, plus a log bed for mom and dad. (You provide your own linens or sleeping bags).   These yurts sleep up to five people.

Blake, Madison & my David
Open the back door and you've got an amazing lake view, plus a gorgeous deck with a picnic table.

Each yurt has its own fire pit, charcoal grill, and water spigot.  Make a delicious grilled dinner, then enjoy s'mores around the fire pit at your new favorite home away from home!

The yurts are bright and airy during the day, with large windows and a sky light.

At night, open the screened window's covers so you can fall asleep with a cool breeze from the lake.

If you are like me, and camping in a tent is not your idea of fun, you'll enjoy camping/glamping in a yurt! It's so much nicer and you get some of those luxuries we're used to (like electricity for charging your phone and a comfy bed). You can see more pics and information about the Yurts on the Park's website here.

Book your stay in one of these fabulous new SMP Yurts by calling 1-800-385-9807.

Summer Series: White Water: the NEW #DiveBomber!

Hey y'all! How is your summer going? Ours is AWESOME so far! We've been to Alabama to visit family, we've been to the pool, lots of park visiting, plus Six Flags White Water and Stone Mountain - two of our favorite Atlanta destinations!

Today I am excited to share our day at White Water with you and tell you about their coolest new ride ever, Dive Bomber! It's a thrill ride like no other at the park! So, here's the scoop....

Earlier this month,  White Water invited us to visit and check out their brand new thrill ride, Dive Bomber.  I was so excited, as I practically lived at White Water during my high school summers. We lived in Marietta so it was really close and so much fun! I was a sunbather back in those days, so I preferred the Little Hooch, White Water's version of the lazy river. There was nothing better than floating down the river, soaking up the sunshine! No cares, no worries, nothing but sunshine and lots of cool, refreshing water lapping at your toes.

Yep, I spent many summer days there. Good times!  Then I grew up and moved to the other side of town.  I haven't been to White Water since my oldest was a preschooler. (She just got married last year, so you know it's been a while!) So it was way past time for a visit with my youngest.  That morning we met up with our good friends Renea & Blake and headed out early so we'd get there for the grand opening of Dive Bomber!

Once there, it felt like being home again.  Seriously! I remember so many fun days at White Water, and it looks very much the same.  They've added lots of new slides since then, though.

Our boys, getting ready to experience White Water for the first time!

Our first stop was the all new Dive Bomber ride! It is the tallest slide ever built at White Water.  It's approximately 100 feet tall, and you climb 144 stairs to get to the capsule on top!  Step inside, and check out a really great view of Marietta before you the floor literally drops out from under you....then you will fly at almost 90 degrees down the waterslide below.....wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Here's my kiddo, and in the upper left is #Dive Bomber. You can see the railing in front of the "capsule"
that drops you down, and the slide underneath.

I didn't get the best video of the slide, but here you go!  Our boys were not quite ready to take on Dive Bomber that day, so we were content to watch people drop down the slide.  (Be careful where you stand at the bottom, because you can get seriously soaked down there!) Everyone we talked to who tried Dive Bomber absolutely loved it! What a great addition to White Water's slides - this is definitely a thrill ride you will want to try.

Here's a link to the Six Flags White Water park map, where you can see everything they have to offer! So many slides!

We stayed for most of the day and White Water treated us to delicious food and a fabulous cabana. Let me tell you, these mamas had the best time staying cool and shaded inside a cabana - they even have ceiling fans! Ours overlooked the wave pool, aka Atlanta Ocean and the Little Hooch Lazy River. Those were the places where our boys spent the majority of their time and we could keep an eye on them.  The cabanas are well worth the money if you want to splurge for the day! The boys came back often to cool down, enjoy a cold drink, funnel cakes or dippin' dots, then went back to the waves. The cabana  was a wonderful base camp for our families that day.

We enjoyed plenty of yummy food at White Water, too.  We tried the Buffalo Tenders and Loaded Fries - delish! They have lots of flavors of Dippin' Dots ice cream, the funnel cakes come in several varieties, and they have freshly popped popcorn.  Our boys sampled a little of everything that day!

Purchase a refillable 2015 Sports bottle (not pictured) and you get unlimited drink refills all season!  (They also offer a Deluxe Dining Pass for Season Pass Holders)

More about the park:

There is plenty of seating, especially if you get there early in the day.

Some of the other places to play at White Water:  (full list of rides/attractions here)

If you have little ones, there are several places for your kiddos to splash and play too!

Buccaneer Bay (picture from SFWW website)

Captain Kid's Cove (picture from SFWW website)
Cabana Time:

Our cabana had a table and chairs for four, two lounge chairs, a storage locker, ceiling fan, plus food and beverage service.  It was great to have a private space to keep everything during the day.  So worth the splurge, and when the kiddos need to rest and cool down, they have a nice place to do so. Totally doing that again next time!

White Water offers Dive In Movies on Thursday nights in June and July; you can see the schedule here.   Great family fun night with the kids!

Amazingly Beautiful Moisturizer Trusted Health Products

Summer weather = dry skin for me.  So when Trusted Health Products offered me the opportunity to try their newest skin care product, Amazingly Beautiful Body Moisturizer and Revitalizer, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it.  My friends at Trusted Health Products have some of the best beauty and personal care products I've ever tried. I enjoy working with them to share new products with y'all!

This silky moisturizer is made with natural products you can easily identify - almond, avocado, and olive oils, plus lemon, lime and orange oils.  It smells amazing - like juicy, fresh-cut citrus fruit.  It leaves your skin feeling super-soft and moisturized.  It is suggested that you apply this moisturizer immediately after showering and that is what I do.  I was a little worried that it would take a long time to be absorbed, as it is an oil based moisturizer.  I discovered that isn't an issue at all.  This oil is very light (NOT greasy feeling!) and absorbs quickly into my skin, leaving it moisturized for hours. And did I mention the delicious fragrance?  It's incredibly rejuvenating - it perks you up while making your skin gorgeous, too.  There is nothing I don't love about this product.

Here is some more information from the company about Amazingly Beautiful Moisturizer and Revitalizer:

We have discovered that certain combinations of potent plant extracts – with “living nutrients” still intact – perform unbelievably well when interacting with other living cells. The key is in the way our bodies’ living cells absorb these nutrients. This process acts like “Miracle Grow” for your skin cells and delivers stunning results while nourishing your skin just the way it likes it.

Amazingly Beautiful’s 100% pure live ingredients are the perfect living “foods” that your skin cells need in order to be fed the nutrients they need to stay clean, moisturized and revitalized on a daily basis.

Decreases the appearance of spider veins and blemishes
Smooths the appearance of rough and scaly areas
Reduces the appearance of age spots, discoloration and sun spots
Firms and tones skin’s appearance
Skin feels clean and conditioned – smooth like silk
Can use as an underarm deodorant
Feels like it moisturizes deep down – say goodbye to dry skin
100% pure botanical oils of almond, orange, lime, lemon, olive and avocado

Review: Thermalabs Natural Organic Self Tanner

Recently I was offered the chance to review this Self Tanning lotion in exchange for sharing it on my social media accounts,  and I'm so thrilled I did!  Have you tried a self tanner that leaves you orange, or streaky looking?   This one will not do that - it gives you a beautiful, natural-looking tan!

I tried it one night right before bedtime.  I used a pair of gloves like the ones you get with haircolor.  I applied this lotion to both legs, which are a lovely shade of pasty white this time of year! I honestly didn't expect much of anything thanks to products I've tried before.  So imagine my surprise to find them a nice, even bronze color the next morning!  No streaks, and the only place I had an issue was on my ankle bones - I should have thinned the lotion with a little water and applied it over those areas.  Oh well, live and learn!   The "tan" lasted for about four days, and that was fantastic. I can't wait to try it again - this lotion couldn't be any easier to use!

You can find it on Amazon, just in time for Spring Break!

First Things First

Summer is all about family and spending quality time with the ones you love. And the more skills you develop, the more time you invest in your family and your relationships.  First Things First (FTF) is an award winning, not-for-profit organization dedicated to strengthening families in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
FTF is a resource that collaborates with and is supported by a broad cross-section of community organizations, groups and individuals.  FTF accomplishes it mission through meaningful media messaging and skill building classes.
Did you know:
• 24 million children are growing up in homes without their biological fathers.
• Only 30% of divorces are due to infidelity, addiction or abuse, 70% of divorces are due to couples feeling disconnected.
• Couples who manage to devote time specifically to one another at least once a week are markedly more likely to enjoy high-quality relationships and lower divorce rates, compared to couples who do not devote as much couple time to one another.
• Fathers provide unique benefits to their daughters through their active and positive presence from the time of birth all the way through adulthood.
You can see all of First Things First's e-learning videos here. They cover relationships, marriage and parenting.  Not only are they funny, they are educational! I think these videos are great resources for any family.
I've watched them all, and this is my favorite FTF video.  Check it out! It's called Dad's Way....
I am the first to admit to being a helicopter mama.  But I realize it is important for kids to have the chance to get a little wild with Dad sometimes.  I need to let that happen more!
First Things First wants to give one of my readers a fun prize pack that includes His & Hers MoonPie shirts (size L) and two boxes of single decker MoonPies!

It's easy to enter, there is only one mandatory entry (you MUST leave a comment below this post about the video you like best - if you don't do the mandatory entry, your other entries won't count!) There are plenty of ways to get extra entries. Enter throught the Rafflecopter Widget below  & if you don't see it, click the read more link!
