Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament’s Atlanta Castle is dedicated to “Chivalry in Action” and in honor of this philanthropic mission, they need our help for their largest-ever back to school drive.

For the first time ever, they will be providing 750 book bags to 15 pre-selected Atlanta-Area Schools!

So how can you help?  If you are local you can drop off new school supplies at their Sugarloaf Mills location - 5900 Sugarloaf Parkway, Lawrenceville GA 30043

Now through July 28th, guests who donate at least one unused school supply per ticket when visiting the Atlanta castle will receive up to $22.00 off their adult-priced tickets. We were able to visit Medieval Times Atlanta on Sunday night for a wonderful show and delicious dinner!  We're so lucky to have Medieval Times here in metro Atlanta - it's a great place for a fun family night out, or to celebrate events or groups!

Haven't been to Medieval Times yet? Oh my goodness!! You need to go!! We like to arrive about 30 minutes before the show starts. When you arrive you'll get cards showing your color for the evening, and crowns for everyone to wear.  You can get your picture taken with the King and Princess, and enjoy drinks for the whole family at the bar.  Then they begin seating guests.  VIP's get seated first - you can upgrade your dinner ticket to several package options.   We were seated after the VIPs, and found we were in the center, red and gold section.  We enjoyed cheering for our knight! It was a great night - ours won the tournament, too!

Our server was so much fun.  Her name was Chelsea and she was a hoot! She started out by filling our drinks.  You choose from Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Sweet Tea, Unsweet Tea or Water.  (Or you can order a drink from the bar!)  Then she served us soup, followed by garlic bread, roasted chicken, potatoes and corn on the cob.  Dessert was a lemon pound cake, served with coffee.   If your family doesn't like eating with their hands, be sure to pack some plastic cutlery!! And don't forget to tip your server appropriately- they work hard taking care of guests during the show!  You'll have the chance to purchase your photo with the King, plus banners, light-up swords and such, and banners while you eat dinner.

The show was spectacular, as always! The knights put on quite a show.  The horses are beautiful and magnificent to watch.  The Falcon was awesome too.  My 13-year-old always loves visiting Medieval Times because of the adventurous, action-packed show the knights provide!  Despite the fact that he's been several times before, he's always amazed by the skill shown by the knights as they joust and sword fight.   It's fun for kids of all ages, and parents will be entertained, as well.

We had several younger kids seated around on this visit, and it was so much fun to watch them enjoying the show for the first time - the wonder and joy in their eyes is wonderful to behold!  Hang out after the show and you can meet the knights, get photos with them, and they'll even sign your crown or banner!

There's a great gift shop you can check out before or after the show, too.  Lots of fun souvenirs to choose from.

Six Flags Over Georgia is also announcing the opening of Hurricane Harbor for its third season. The massive water park features acres of water thrills, including the award-winning Tsunami Surge water slide with a 45-foot zero gravity wave wall. Hurricane Harbor is free with park admission. The park is open daily through August 7.

David and I got to attend the opening of the DC Super Friends at Six Flags over Georgia yesterday and we brought my sister and her daughter along for the fun.  The new DC Super Friends area is located across from the Monster Plantation and it's a lot of fun! Here are some pics of our fun day at Six Flags! The new rides are great, and there is even an arcade with lots of games and air conditioning - it makes a nice break from the heat! (of course, I forgot to take any pics of the arcade, even though we were hanging out in there for a while)  Don't forget you can click on any picture to see a larger copy.

Have a Spring FUN Break at Stone Mountain Park!! #SpringFUNBreak

Hey parents - looking for something to keep the kids busy for Spring Break? I've got a great option for you!  Stone Mountain Park is one of Atlanta's best attractions, in my opinion.  There is something for everyone to do, all year round, and Spring Break is no exception!  Visit through April 10th to enjoy these Spring FUN Break activities!

We always like to start our visits at the Great Barn.  David could spend the whole day there! Four floors of cannons, ball drops, trampoline floors, interactive games, stairs and nets to climb - so much FUN!

The Scenic Railroad train ride is different every season.   I enjoyed hearing the history of the mountain during our ride around the base of the mountain on this visit.  David, his friend Seth & I took plenty of pictures of the beautiful views as we rode along.

Some new things to experience this Spring Break:  

The Great American Duck Race, where Mallard Ducks race to the finish line and you could win prizes!  You can visit with the ducks and even feed them before the races.  

Visit the Azalea Stage and see Magic Mark & Einstein the Rabbit!  Kids will really enjoy this magic show!

Check out the April Fool's Indoor Lasertag!   Make sure you wear closed toe shoes for this awesome five minute, 20 player lasertag experience.

There are so many other cool things to do at Stone Mountain Park, like:

The Great Locomotive Chase Adventure Golf,  or watch the Yogi Bear 4-D Adventure movie, or get splashed at Geyser Towers!  (you need closed toe shoes for Geyser Towers too!)  You can even trek through the treetops on SkyHike if you are brave enough!  You can take the Summit Skyride to the top of the mountain, or hike up if you feel like it.

If you get hungry, Stone Mountain Park has plenty of places to enjoy a snack or meal.  During this visit, David had pizza, Seth had a BBQ sandwich, and I tried the BBQ chicken nachos. YUMMY!

You can upgrade your daily ticket to include a meal, or to add a ticket to ride the Duck.

The Lasershow will be offered this Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, too.  This is one of our favorite things at Stone Mountain - the music, the fire, the lasers - WOW!

Be on the lookout for the grand opening of The Jump - a thrilling new experience coming to Stone Mountain Park this Spring!

So take a short drive to Stone Mountain Park and check out all of the fun things they have to offer for Spring FUN Break - the kids will have a ball, and you will too!

Spring Break Junior Knight Training at Medieval Times Atlanta!

It's almost Spring Break, and I know some of y'all will be stay-cationing here in Atlanta.  I just found a great option for a memorable Spring Break family dinner with your family! 

Medieval Times is hosting a great program for kids during Spring Break ~ Junior Knight Training!  Kids between the ages of 4-12 will have the opportunity to get down in the sand before the show and train with the knights. Holiday in the Park at Six Flags over Georgia

I just adore this time of year! Getting ready for Christmas, all the fun and traditions, the decorations, the music, the food..... so much good stuff packed into the last two months of the year.

We found a new holiday tradition that I can't wait to share with y'all!  Did you know that Six Flags over Georgia is open for Christmas?  It's called Holiday in the Park and it is fantastic!  We went with our friends Tiffany & Seth, and it was great fun!

First - the lights.  Oh my goodness, the park absolutely transforms once the sun sets!  There are millions of twinkling, glittery lights everywhere! And trees!  It's just beautiful.

The tree lighting was fun and a special start to our evening. After all, a Christmas-themed wonderland is not complete without a gigantic tree and ceremonial lighting. The tree will be lit by U.S. Service personnel, along with their loved ones, at 6 p.m. each night of Holiday in the Park.

There are so many areas to explore: A Main Street Christmas, Peppermint Plaza, Retro Christmas USA, Glohill, Holiday City, North Pole and more! You'll want to visit every place and see the sights!

There are plenty of rides available during Holiday in the Park, too.  My son isn't big on any thrill rides and coasters, but we did get him on the train and carousel this visit.  And I rode the Harley Quinn Spinsanity again - it's my favorite!!  It is really neat to see the park all lit up at night from the rides!

Make sure to visit Santa and Mrs. Claus, and you may even see an elf or two! There are strolling carolers, holiday music, even mistletoe in front of the Monster Mansion! So make sure you stop for a kiss from someone you love.

There is plenty of yummy food and hot drinks for you to enjoy too.  S'mores, peppermint funnel cakes...you will find all kinds of sweets, and different hot cocoas - try it with Peeps marshmallows!  After your visit, you'll have to let me know your favorite treat from Holiday in the Park in the comments below.

Our favorite was the chicken and beignets. So tasty!  Plus a cup of hot cocoa with whipped cream.  David also tried the mint fudge, and cheddar popcorn - both were hits! 

I hope you and your family will take some time to check out Holiday in the Park this holiday season, and make it a part of your Christmas traditions.  It's really beautiful, and such a fun way to get your Christmas on!

Fun Fall, Y'all! Fright Fest at Six Flags over Georgia

We got a sneak peek at the 2015 Six Flags Fright Fest this past weekend, and it's awesome!

The scary surprises start as soon as you arrive at the front gate. Step inside the park and you'll find caskets, wagons filled with creepy cargo, and more.  Spider webs drape the buildings on the promenade, as well.  The haunting music that plays throughout the park will definitely get you in the mood for Fright Fest!

Hungry vultures were everywhere!  They had lots to "feast" on....

Daytime thrills include family-friendly activities such as the Lickskillet Harvest Festival.  It is a fun place to take pics with a silly scarecrow, play on the playground and paint your own pumpkin to take home with you! Offered Friday from 6 – 10 pm and Saturday and Sunday 12 – 6 pm.

Bugs Bunny Spooky Town has no tricks, only treats - hang out with your favorite Looney Tunes friends, and enter the Costume Contest at the Bugs Bunny World Theater! It's at 7 pm on Friday, and 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday.  (Only kids 12 and under are allowed to wear costumes in the park, according to the Six Flags website.)

Spooky Stories - Bugs Bunny World Theater – Fun, scary stories are told Friday at 8, 9 and 10 pm, and Saturday and Sunday at 1, 2, 3 and 5 pm.

McBoogles –Hanson Cars – Read about the adventures of the McBoogle family as you take a leisurely drive on the Hanson Cars.  Friday 6 – close, Saturday and Sunday 12 – close.

Things get much scarier for Fright by Night after dark!

Check out The Mourning, a village where the Dead walk and vultures feast.....

Beware the Lost Souls who like to travel in the fog of night, between the Mourning funeral and their graves in the Southern Cemetery.

Cross through The Battleground, where the undead have no love for the living and the battle for Fright Fest has begun!

Travel back in time to 1692 and venture through the village of Salem, where chaos has ensued with the Salem Witch Hunt.

In the Dark Harvest, you'll need to be wary of the corn fields, filled with scarecrows waiting for their prey....

In Big Top Terror there is a wicked Ringmaster who draws onlookers in with his hypnotic voice and wicked gaze!

Gotham City is where you'll find the end of days is near.  A deadly infection is rapidly wiping out mankind....

In Subterrestrial, watch out or you may become the newest creature to live below with the sewer monsters!

In addition to all of the Fright Fest thrills and scares, there are also tons of great rides for your family to enjoy while you are there.  My favorite is always the Harley Quinn Spinsanity!! As someone who doesn't like heights or rollercoasters, people can't believe how much I love spinning crazily in circles over and over, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!  My friend Lisa's son Jeramy rode this with me three times in a row, til we could hardly walk straight!

If you like roller coasters, you will be in heaven at Six Flags over Georgia.  They have so many – the Joker Chaos Coaster, The Mind Bender, The Great American Scream Machine, The Georgia Cyclone, The Georgia Scorcher and several more! 

Just know that after dark things will get scary - so if you have littles, plan to go early when things are family-friendly, and leave by dinner time. If you have teens, they will probably like the after dark fun best, especially if they like to get scared!

Summer Series: Medieval Times at Sugarloaf Mills

It's almost time for school to start back, can you believe it?! I always like to do something special to celebrate the beginning of another year for my son.  One year we went to the park to feed the ducks early one Sunday morning, then had brunch. We went to see a movie he wanted to see one year. Another time we went for ice cream the night before school started!  If you like to celebrate back to school, I've got a fun idea: take your kids on a trip back in time at Medieval Times at Sugarloaf Mills! 

We took our first trip to Medieval Times a few weeks ago and it was a blast!  We got there about 1 hour and 15 minutes before the show, and there was a line already - it is popular! When you arrive you will be given a crown with the color(s) of the Knight you will be cheering for.  If you'd like,  you can have your picture taken with the King before you enter the huge gathering area.  Relax and enjoy cold drinks for everyone from the bar - they have smoothies for the kids.  Visit the Dungeon (there's a nominal charge for this).  Check out the beautiful offerings in the gift shop. You can even visit with some of the cast members before the show begins.   Before long, they will call you to the doors and begin letting you in, one color at a time.

Once inside the arena, you are seated at long tables, grouped by the colors of your Knight.  Your server will let you know the drink choices, and before long, your drinks, garlic bread and soup are in front of you.  One note here - everything is served without utensils. You are, of course, in the middle ages!  Your soup is in a bowl that you can sip out of.  We went with our friends Tiffany & Seth, and Tiffany brought along plastic cutlery for us to use, thank goodness! So, you may wish to bring your own if you prefer to eat with a fork & spoon and not your fingers!

About this time, the show began.  Beautiful horses, Royalty, the Royal Falconer, and a storyline that will have your family cheering loudly for your Knight!  My son's favorite was the horses - he really enjoyed watching them perform.   The Falconer was fascinating to watch, as well.  And then came the jousting - I was really surprised at how much David got a kick out of that!

While we watched, we were served our main course of chicken with corn on the cob and potatoes.   Everything was delicious and so filling.  After your plates are cleared, you'll receive an apple pastry and coffee, if you'd like.  They also offer to-go boxes if you can't finish everything.   There is a vegetarian meal available if you let them know when you book your tickets.



Medieval Times was a wonderful experience.  Before we visited, I wasn't sure if I would like it, but I am glad I was wrong! It is a great family attraction, and to see those beautiful horses performing was magical.  That's why I think this makes a great back to school tradition - it's so special and unique! Your kiddos will definitely remember this night.  And if you homeschool like we do, you'll love the Partners in Education pages Medieval Times has on their website.  I really appreciate that our special night out can be turned into a history lesson for David, too!

I highly recommend visiting Medieval Times for your special family night, or celebration.  It's something you won't soon forget! We had a wonderful time with our friends, enjoying a delicious dinner and an exciting show.  I am sure we will be back again!

Summer Series: Fernbank~Brain, the Inside Story

Are your kiddos getting bored?  Running out of ideas to keep them busy? Let me tell you about one of our favorite places to spend the day exploring and learning.  

Earlier this month I took my son and his cousins to visit the new exhibit at Fernbank Museum of Natural History.  It's called Brain: The Inside Story and it was fascinating!

First, we watched the 9 minute movie at the beginning of the exhibit.  It was really informative and I'm glad we took the time to stop and see it.  Then we started exploring.  

There are some fun and interesting experiments and tests to try out.  The kids especially enjoyed the one where there was a list of colors side by side.  The first one had the colors printed in the same color as the name (orange in orange, blue in blue, etc) and the second had the colors mixed up.  The challenge? To say the second list but say the color by name, not by the color it was printed in!  It was tough to do - your brain wants to use the color it is printed in!

We learned about the brain and love, emotions, forming memories, and lots more.  Tons of hands on activities in this exhibit! Samantha said she liked learning about the advances in medical technology.  Brain: The Inside Story will be on display at Fernbank through August 23, 2015.

We also got to check out some old favorites at Fernbank!  Sensing Nature is a FUN room full of all kinds of optical illusions, hands on experiments for sound and sight, giant bubbles, a weather forecasting set and much more.  It's always a fun time when we visit this awesome room!

Jeremy enjoyed this hands-on Archaeology cart - lots of cool things to discover!

My kids & I have loved visiting Fernbank for years. We especially love Fernbank NatureQuest, which is an interactive play area with literally hundreds of hands on activities!  I even reviewed NatureQuest back in 2011 when it opened.  The huge clubhouse has several levels, there's a huge red oak tree to climb and explore.  You can follow a stream, explore a cave, and see live alligators and turtles!  Learn about the Georgia coast, and other regions too.  Plan to spend plenty of time in this fabulous permanent exhibit!

There is plenty more to see - the IMAX theater, the Star Gallery, Walk Through Time in Georgia, World of Shells, follow the  fossil floors throughout the museum, check out the Dinosaurs, Fernbank Forest, and much more.

There is a nice cafe where you can have lunch, and a gift shop with great gifts and souvenirs.  We spent almost 5 hours at the museum and still didn't see everything this visit! It's a great family destination for days that are too hot, rainy, or when the kids say "Mom, I'm so bored"! (You can find out about upcoming activities and events here)   We had a wonderful time and look forward to going back again for the next traveling exhibit.   Don't forget, Brain, the Inside Story is only there until August 23.  I encourage you to check it out - it will be a great day of family fun, exploring and learning.
