I've watched this with my 12 year old, and also with my 5 year old and 7 year old niece and nephew.

My son liked how fast-paced the short film is - each chapter is only a few minutes long.  I loved the bold, bright illustrations, too.  We also enjoy listening to the CD in the car while running errands.

My niece and nephew liked the bright colors and the story.  But being younger, even these short chapters seemed a little long for them.  They both watched the entire film though!

Living in metro Atlanta, I vividly remember the day this event happened.  I sat glued to my living room tv as the events played out live.  Brian Nichols, on trial for rape, escaped from a deputy in the Fulton County courthouse downtown.   He killed several people, including the judge presiding over his trial. Local news ran on tv all day, as the police desperately tried to find Nichols.  I remember thinking he was surely out of state by the end of the day - why on earth would he still be in the metro area, right? Well, everyone was surprised the next morning, when he was found in Duluth, GA. (only about 15 miles from us).  As the story of the evening unfolded, and we learned about the girl he held hostage for hours in her apartment, it became obvious that it was a miracle she was still alive!  This story stayed with me for years. I read Ashley Smith's book several years ago, and now I've seen this movie.   It is definitely not for children - it is very intense and has content that is for adults only. When I got this DVD in the mail and realized what it was about; I was not sure how I'd feel watching it, it brought back that day and how scary and sad it was.  Afterwards, I was glad I did.  It's inspiring and has a good message.   ~ Aimee 



This DVD was released on January 5, 2016, and it is 96 minutes long.  It's rated PG-13 (for mature thematic elements involving violence and substance abuse)

Review: Krav Maga In No Time

I've been trying out a fantastic Krav Maga course, Krav Maga in No Time,  these last few weeks.  What is Krav Maga, you ask?It's the self-defense and martial arts method currently in use by the CIA, FBI and Israeli Army, due to its ability to end a fight in the shortest amount of time.  I think this is a great way to learn, watching these videos in the privacy of your home!

There are 27 videos included, and they are divided into 3 sections.  Each short video is very easy to follow and learn the proper technique.  For example, the first video is how to stand so you are not easily knocked off balance, and how to make a fist.  The instructor explains things very thoroughly so that you understand why you are standing in each position, and how to do it. I've found it really easy to "get".  It's like taking a private class!  The instructions are to watch each video and practice, practice, practice so you will be ready if you ever need to defend yourself - it will be second nature after practicing each move over and over.

My 11 year old is learning right along with me.  As I mentioned before, the instructor does a great job teaching you how to stand, how to use your hands or kicks to defend yourself.   We both are learning so much.  This is a great way to get some exercise, but you are also learning a valuable skill - how to protect yourself!

Hey wonderful people!! Guess what?  My Katie is now a high school graduate!! We are so very proud of her!! The last few months I've been very limited in how much time I've had for blogging, but now that the excitement and activities of graduation are over,  I will be back with lots more great stuff!

I'll do a separate post on the graduation soon, but first I have to share this awesome app and giveaway!
Warner Brothers just released Journey 2:  The Mysterious Island on DVD & Blue-Ray.  Don't know much about this movie?  Here ya go:

Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson, The Hunger Games) finds a hidden signal that he believes will lead him to his long lost grandfather (Michael Caine, Miss Congeniality).  With the help of his new step father (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, The Scorpion King), Sean finds a map and starts his adventure which leads him to Kailani (Vanessa Hudgens, High School Musical) and the island of Atlantis!  Sean and his friends battle giant bees, killer lizards, a volcano of gold, and electric eels to escape the lost city and make their way home!
